Motorcycle touring adventures in Colorado are big, bold and beautiful. These routes boast breathtaking views, winding treacherous roads, steep drops, falling rocks, inclement weather, unpredictable wildlife and many, many more unforeseen challenges but, it also promises a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that you will never forget. Be prepared with this list of  helpful, must-have items that will make your road adventures more fun, safe and convenient.

Touring Tips

No matter where your next exploit takes you, whether it’s Colorado or anywhere else in the world, here are some tips and must-have gear to make your ride more fun, safer and easier than ever before.

Suspension

Before any big, multi-day trip check and adjust your suspension. This is especially true if you are riding “pillion” (with a passenger) or if your bike is loaded up with lots of gear. Additional weight affects sag on the suspension. Adjusting the sag to match your travel weight will improve your bike’s ride and handling.

Helmet

For a multi-day, multi-state(or country) tour wear a full-face helmet, many states require a lid of some sort and a full-face helmet offers some key benefits to a touring rider. They keep you warmer and dryer than any other style, and greatly reduce wearisome noise.

Maps

Plan stops ahead of time and know if restaurants, grocery stores, campgrounds, mechanic shops, etc. are close-by. Use something like Butler Motorcycle Maps to find out tons of information about the route and what to expect. If you’re traveling off the beaten path, and out of cell range, download maps in advance, because without cell service your GPS won’t work.

Take your time to enjoy the view, you may never be this way again, make sure you enjoy it!

Fuel

Plan your gas stops in advance. Out in the western United States it can be far and few between gas stations. You may also opt to have a second fuel container on board, just in case.

Flat Tires

Flats are a pain in the butt, but they happen. Carry a small repair kit and an inflation tool, so you’re not caught unprepared.

  • Love this list of cool adventure touring motorcycle accessories.  My husband and I enjoy long motorcycle rides all over the United States and we have even done a couple in Canada.   I love these adventures but they can be very difficult and I am always on the lookout for innovative ideas to make our outings more convenient and comfortable. I found a ton of items on this list that fit the bill. I love the heated motorcycle glove & liners. I have heated handlebar heaters but I think liners in my gloves would be awesome, especially on really cold rides, and it is always so hard for me to keep my hands warm, so this is first, on my "To Buy" list. Also the bluetooth headset looks really useful.  I have just lost my earbuds so I am looking for a replacement.  I never really liked the earbuds anyways, and these seem more comfortable and really versatile. Also, I want the cell phone mount because I use my phone for navigation, (which is good because my husband has a tendency to get us lost.( LOL) . Thanks again, these are great suggestions. Cheers!

Also you will love how you can talk to your husband or others in your group with the Bluetooth headphones, makes it so much easier to communicate about bathroom breaks, mechanical problems or just to point out something you see along the way.  So awesome!
