Who Stays at Colorado RV Parks

RV parks are a great place to spend the night and utilize the amenities that the campground offers. They are also a perfect, affordable base camp for your Colorado adventures and are ideal for families.

  • RV parks with amenities like hiking trails, game rooms, and playgrounds, are great for families.
  • Vacationers. Couples, Solo Adventurers.
  • Long-Term Travelers who work remotely on the road. Working on the road will require electricity to power devices like computers, and internet access via WiFi.
  • Retired Travelers who are staying for a month, a season, or year round.
  • Permanent RV Residents, people who find it more affordable and convenient to live permanently in a local RV park.

What to Expect at Vail RV Parks

There are not many dedicated RV parks in the Vail Valley, most are campgrounds that allow both tent campers and RVers to share available sites. The vibe here is all about getting back to nature while getting away from it all, so be prepared for boondocking or tailgating, which means RV sites that do not enjoy all the hookups found at a dedicated RV park like electricity, water or sewer.

Also keep in mind that in the Vail area, many campsites are located on National Forest, in National or State Parks or on BLM areas. These campgrounds may have “quiet times” when generators are not allowed, and these times vary. Also if it is high wildfire conditions there may be more restrictions so be sure to check with the local ranger for up-to-date details.

However, there are some full-service RV parks including River Dance RV Resort, Glenwood Canyon Resort RV Park, 4 Eagle Ranch and Tiger Run RV Resort that will make your RV experience so much easier and convenient.

Remember, there are not many RV spaces available in the Vail valley or surrounding areas so make sure you make reservations early because campsites fill up FAST.

This must be particularly emphasized if you have a larger RV vehicle as the number of options for RVs over 35 ft in length are considerably less.

  • WOW!! You guys have some fantastic RV parks available. I found your article extremely interesting. I live in Australia, and am coming to the United States for an extended tour.  I will be spending 5  months next year travelling across the US, mostly in a huge RV. I am planning my route and since reading your article and checking out your ThinkVail website have decided that this area must go on the list.  Since I am travelling in a big rig my options are more limited but I am really interested in Tiger Run in Breckenridge and Glenwood Canyon Resort.  From these two parks I should be able to cover a lot of ground. Thanks for the tips I really enjoyed your website.

    • Thanks for your kind comments about the Best RV parks in Vail article and about ThinkVail.com as a whole, we really appreciate your kind words.  Have fun while you're in the area! A 5-month extended tour of the US sounds like an Epic trip, I wish I were going along with you!

  • We are planning on spending a few days at the Wolcott Campground. My girlfriend and I love to climb and we have heard about this campground with some cool Boulders that are perfect for bouldering and practicing your technique.  I think this would be great for the girlfriend as she is still "learning the ropes" so to speak. We have a small pop up trailer that is perfect for this kind of adventure.

    • Hi Henry, so happy you enjoyed this post about the Best RV parks in Vail, CO and you are in for a treat.  Wolcott boasts a lot of great climbing from the Wolcott boulders to some amazing climbing on the hills and cliffs that surround the campground.  Check in with local rock climbing shop Alpine Quest Sports they will have tons of info on local climbing and if you need any gear they are a great resource.

  • Vail is on my list of places to go snowboarding. I was wondering if staying in a rented RV in the winter is advisable.  What RV park in Vail would you recommend for someone who has never been to the area before, with snowboarding in mind? It doesn't necessarily need to be really near the ski resorts, as we would want to hike some backcountry areas too.

    • Hi Tom thank you for reading and commenting on the Best RV parks in Vail, CO article. It is definitely harder to travel by RV in Vail, in the winter.  First of all, the snow, ice and steep terrain can make. for a very scary drive.  Also most parks are closed in the winter but a couple are available year round including the River Dance RV Park in Gypsum, CO and 4 Eagle Ranch in Wolcott, CO, Glenwood Canyon Resort and Tiger Resort in Breckenridge.  All of these parks are reasonably close to the local ski areas and if you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle you should be able to easily drive and have a great day snowboarding at Breckenridge Ski Area, Vail Ski Area, Beaver Creek Ski Area, Arrowhead Ski Area and even Ski Sunlight and Aspen Mountain. Lastly if your planning on spending a day at Vail you might want to check out the post Best Ski Runs on Vail Mountain. Have fun and enjoy all the world-class snowboarding in the area.

  • Great article about the Best RV Parks in Vail, CO.  I am planning a trip that includes spending a few days in Vail and Aspen. This article will be so helpful.  I am looking into staying at the Glenwood Canyon Resort. This looks like a great park with a lot to do and a lot of amenities. I will be traveling with my family, including kids and the dog, so comfort and convenience is very important. I think this would be a great base camp for both Vail and Aspen as it seems like it is equidistant to both areas.  Thanks for the helpful info I will calling to make reservations as soon as possible.

    • Hi Trevor I am so happy that  the post Best RV Parks in Vail, CO was helpful. Yes you can't go wrong with Glenwood Canyon Resort they have a great location!  The RV Park has an onsite restaurant- No Name Bar & Grill. It is situated on the 16-mile Glenwood Canyon Recreational Trail that follows the Colorado River! Read the article Bike Paths of Vail, CO for more information on this super fun activity. It is also only minutes from all the activities and of restaurants Glenwood Springs but it feels like a million miles away. Another amenity is it's close proximity to Hanging Lake Hiking Trail, the most hiked trail in all of Colorado.  Have fun while your here and enjoy all the adventures

  • This is exactly what I was looking for! I am taking my entire family for an RV road trip to Veil in a couple of weeks and I know nothing about the area. Within your article, I spotted a couple of RV parks that we could stay for a while and they also have some seats available for us.  If I were you, I would also include some screenshots of the location of each park on a map... This would make our lives so much easier :)

    Thanks a lot!

    • Hi Harry I am glad you were able to find some RV Parks in Vail, CO that will suit your needs during the time when you and your family come to visit.  For more information about each campground just click on the name of the park and it links to the RV Parks website with more details, location description and MAPS.  So hopefully you will find everything you need right in the article.  Good luck and have fun while you are in the area.

  • Great article about RV parks in the Vail area, we escape to Vail, Breckenridge or Aspen from Denver

every summer but I had never heard about Sylvan Lake in Eagle, CO until I read your post. I am loving Sylvan Lake state park and now intend to spend a week there next summer. It looks like a great area for hiking, fishing and paddle boarding, all activities my family enjoys.  I am going to do some more research for next year, thanks so much for the information.

    • Hi Gillian I am glad you enjoyed the article about the best RV parks in Vail, Colorado. You will LOVE Sylvan Lake, it is one of my favorite places. Just keep in mind that Sylvan lake has no hook ups like water or electricity, it is rustic and more like camping so you may want to check out the article Best RV Accessories for Adventure it has lots of cool gear and innovative products to make RV "boondocking" more fun and convenient.
