Snowboard rentals are perfect for the beginner that doesn’t know which snowboard to buy or the advanced snowboarder that doesn’t want the hassle of traveling with a snowboard.
Renting a snowboard can be very convenient as you avoid lugging heavy, bulky bags, and paying for excess baggage charges. It also allows you to choose a board that is best suited for the snow and slope conditions of a particular mountain on the particular day you need it. Lastly, it is a great way to sample the newest boards each season.
However, renting a snowboard can be very confusing and somewhat intimidating. There are LOTS of options; which store to rent from, which name brand board is best, fluctuating pricing, the logistics of getting your snowboard and more.

Rental Tips:
- You will get the best deal online with an advance reservation, don’t wait till you are at the resort to rent your board.
- It is easiest to rent your board from the ski shop that is nearest your lodging, and rental shops that are attached to hotels usually offer ski valet services and onsite ski storage. This is very convenient and makes life easier especially with kids.
- Snowboard brands vary from shop to shop but, all rental snowboards are name brand, new and will serve you well, and most every store has a policy that if you don’t like the board you are on they will switch it for something else that you do like.
- Many places offer deep discounts for on-line booking in advance. Prices over holidays will be more expensive as inventory becomes scarce. If you just rent for a day, the per-day cost will be more expensive than if you rent for multiple days. The more days you rent the better the price.
- The per-day price can vary dramatically but plan on spending between $25- $70 day for a standard snowboard rental.
SNOWBOARD RENTAL PACKAGES include board, bindings and boots. Packages do not include helmets unless specified, so make sure you inquire.
MOBILE DELIVERY is convenient because they come to you on your schedule and you don’t have to carry all your gear to the shop.
Most shops offer a variation of Demo, Standard and Junior snowboard packages.
- Demo Board – mean it is state-of-the-art equipment intended for intermediate to advanced riders
- Standard Package is perfect for beginners to intermediates and will be good for all-mountain conditions like groomers, powder, terrain park, trees and more.
- Junior Package is perfect for kids up to 12 years old.

Oh my goodness thank you for your timely article. We have just begun planning our spring ski vacation to Vail. This is my family's first time coming to the area and I am planning for the four of us. We need 3 ski rentals, 1 snowboard it seems a little complicated. We are staying at Oxford Court in Beaver Creek. What do you think is our best option?

Thank you for your question. I just pulled up a map of Beaver Creek and saw that Oxford Court is just across the street from the Beaver Creek Lodge which is a Christy Sports location so you could reserve them from that Christy Sports and it would be easy to pick up and drop off at the end of your stay. You could also use a delivery service like Ski Butlers or Black Tie and they would bring all of the items right to your hotel and fit all the equipment for you in your room. They would also pick it up at the end of you trip.
Oxford Court is showing that it has private ski lockers, which would mean you would be able to just put your skis in the locker every night, easy peasy. When there is snow you can ski out from the Elkhorn lift and ski back using the Oxford Court bridge from the Strawberry Park slopes. Please confirm that all this is correct by contacting the hotel and your sk/snowboard rental service of choice directly. And remember, the sooner you make reservations the less expensive it is and the more likely that they will have the inventory you need.

It always pays to rent a ski or snowboard as the ski industry is always changing very rapidly. From long, straight skis to parabolic ones and then the big fatties and now rockered technology. To keep up with these advances, one would have spent a lot of money on gear every year. Even if you have money to buy then what?
If one travels by air then definitely you would like to avoid logistics and airport fees. And even your existing ski and snowboard may not suit the condition.
