Drivetrain

Suspension

Examine the fork and shock seals (full-suspension bike) if seals look dry, cracked or has fluid buildup, your suspension needs to serviced.


Shoe Cleats

Inspect for wear and replace if your shoes are not clicking in securely.

  • Thanks for the informative article about the best mountain bike maintenance tools.  I have been mountain biking for over three years, and I love it! It is always the high point of my summer.  I usually just take my bike to the local shop to get it tuned up every spring and they do all the maintenance for me as well but this year I have decided I want to start tuning my own bike and fixing what I can.  Of course, I want to save money but I also want to understand more about my bike and exactly how and why it works and I think if I understand this aspect more it will also help me improve my riding.  I am ordering the Book, Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance.   I have heard a lot about this book and it has been recommended to me over the years.  I am also going to invest in the bike stand and complete repair kit with the torque wrench.  I just wanted to say thank you for capturing all this info in  one place, it has been really helpful for me and I am super excited to try my hand at this.
